Almost a couple of years ago, I chose to leave a high-paying but mid-ranking job in a multinational manufacturing company to go local. As such, I was again rewarded with an upper management rank in Human Resources much like the positions I used to hold in several local companies in the years past. Needless to say the pay and perks were less than extraordinary compared to my mid-management post in the multinational. However, the opportunities for growth and fulfillment were amazing-to say the least. I believe, again, that this will hold true for most if not all of us who have experienced transitioning from an MNC to a local company.
Consequently, with my experience and best practices in hand I joined the local company. Initially it was bliss. I was or at least felt like I was a shark in a pond of goldfishes (modesty aside). Armed with my knowledge and competencies I was determined to make a distinct mark in the 37 year old history of the local electronics company that I just joined. At least this was my vision-initially.
In the more than 15 years of time that I have invested in the area of Human Capital Development I have come to consider myself as one of the best in the field of training and organization development. Again, modesty aside, a majority of my colleagues in the PMAP and PSTD will attest to this.
Unfortunately, this mountain of experience and competency would only prove to be a molehill of naivete' compared to the cutthroat politics I was to experience in the local company that I just joined...
Is this beginning to sound interesting? watch out for part 2, 3 and 4 of my posts to get to know more...
